"*" New Development - West Lothian.

***NEWS UPDATE 05/05/2010***

Scotwaste have now been granted full planning consent by West Lothian Council to build what we believe to be the Country's largest Anaerobic Digestion Plant.  This is good news for us but even better for West Lothian as it will divert huge tonnages from Landfill and create energy from waste along with more sustainable jobs for Bathgate.

Hamilton-based developer Banks Developments and West Lothian’s leading waste recycling company Scotwaste are set to put forward a joint proposal for a development, which would be situated on our land at the Pond Industrial Estate, around two kilometres South-west of Bathgate, which the companies co-own.

Phase one of the scheme would involve the construction of two buildings – the centre’s Waste Receivals Hall and Mechanical Separation & Sorting Hall.

And if plans are approved, the facility would eventually include a range of the most advanced recycling technologies available on the market.

A detailed planning application for the full waste management facility will be submitted in due course and a full community consultation process including exhibitions will be carried out in advance of the submission, to ensure local people are able to find out as much as possible about the rationale for and details of the plan.

"*" Scotwaste Pet Rescue

We recently managed to rescue a black and white tomcat which had come into the MRF inside a load of waste for disposal.  Thankfully, we found him before any major injury was caused to him and the SSPCA were called.  The rescue received quite a lot of media coverage in an attempt to locate the cat's owner.  He was found wearing a black sparkly collar with a bell and tag on it, but unfortunately there were no owner details on the tag and he was not identity microchipped so we are appealing to his owner to call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999999 to reclaim their beloved pet.

"*" Charity Work

Nothing is wasted at Scotwaste.  In conjunction with their skip exporting business, Scotwaste ship unwanted children’s toys and bicycles which have been thrown into their skips to El Salvador.  Toys and bicycles are loaded onto trucks or shipping containers and sent free to under-privileged youngsters.

Toys are distributed to the poorest members of society.  On an earlier visit to El Savador, Stewart Melrose Jr met parents of children who have benefited from the project.  The gratitude and sincerity of the thanks for the toys and bikes that people in Britain did not want was very moving and proves that this is a very worth while exercise.
