Reducing waste in the office

Energy efficiency

Heating your building is expensive. Ensure doors are kept closed except when in use to help maintain the temperature. Invest in automatic closing mechanisms if not already installed. The fitting of draught excluders will also help to prevent heat loss, improve comfort and cut costs.

Heating and ventilation

For each 1˚C of additional cooling, you add 8% to your air conditioning energy use. Ensure there is a dead band between the heating and air conditioning; no heating above 22˚C and no cooling below 25˚C. This will stop heating and ventilation systems competing against one another.

Ensure windows have double glazing and are draft proof to avoid losing heat through them. Clean windows also allow more light into the room.
